Good design is the foundation of every great outdoor space, but there are many elements to consider before pencil is ever put to paper. Aspects, existing features, planting, topography, soil conditions, diversity, and sustainability all play an important role — yet the most crucial factor is always you, the client.
A design-led approach allows you to work closely with our design team to develop a plan that takes all of these considerations into account. This plan is essential, not only for producing accurate construction quotes during the tender process, but also for ensuring that both client and contractor are aligned throughout the build. By establishing a clear direction from the outset, we eliminate ambiguity, minimise the need for excessive on-site meetings, and avoid costly rework caused by potential miscommunication.
Early conversations around budget are also valuable. By understanding the financial framework, we can design within realistic parameters and create something truly achievable. Too often, we meet clients who arrive with a finished design that has not been properly costed — leading to disappointment, compromise, and additional expense when reworking is required to bring the project to life.
As a design-and-build company, our construction team is involved from the early stages, reviewing plans created by our design team once the concept stage is complete. This collaboration ensures accurate build costs are considered and, if necessary, influences revisions so that the final design is not only beautiful and functional, but also deliverable within the agreed budget.
In some cases, a client’s budget may not cover everything they would like to achieve immediately. In these instances, a staged build can be the most effective solution. Having a robust design in place ensures that the project is carried out in phases without losing continuity, allowing the overall scheme to be realised efficiently over time while maintaining a cohesive vision.
